As they say around the NFL, the third preseason games are typically the most important for teams in terms of what can be expected in the regular season. It’s the last big tune-up for starting players, and often they get action into the third quarter.
“It’s important,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. ” It’s the third game. It’s an important game relative to the preseason, not relative to the season. Still doesn’t count in the standings, but it’s important for us to keep improving as a team, keep trying to get better in specific areas.”
For the Texans this season, quarterback Deshaun Watson is viewed as a major key to the team’s success. He is expected to play today. How Watson performs this season will determine if the Texans compete to win the AFC South. So far this preseason he has played well.
“If Watson can stay healthy, the Texans are capable of winning any game,” Athlon predicted. “His three losses as a starter were one-score games, including three-point defeats at New England and Seattle. Improvement in the offensive line is paramount and not just for Watkins’ benefit.”
The Houston Texans face the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, Aug. 25 in Week 3 of the 2018 NFL preseason. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Coming into last season, the Los Angeles Rams truly weren’t expected to make much of a whimper in the national scope. However, then new head coach Sean McVay had other plans. He ultimately helped the team set the league on fire, which is something Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson can relate to. On Saturday in Week 3 of the 2018 NFL preseason, Watson and McVay’s teams will clash.
Watson came onto the scene as a rookie last year and helped turn the Texans in a decidedly positive direction. Unfortunately for him, his record-setting run was cut short after he suffered a torn ACL in practice that ended his season. He’s coming back now though, along with the likes of JJ Watt on the defense. As such, Houston is a team that could be a sleeper to make real noise in the AFC this year.
The Rams, however, won’t be sneaking up on anyone this year. With Jared Goff and Todd Gurley leading McVay’s offense, this team is incredibly dangerous. However, they went out this offseason and bolstered their defense in a monster way with trades for Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib in addition to signing Ndamukong Suh. They could be an All-Star team that’s near impossible to beat in 2018.
